Several bushfires continue to burn in Southern Tasmania. There is currently no threat to communities directly from these fires however these fires are creating smoke which is visible and may be smelt around the around the Derwent Valley, Huon Valley, D'Entrecasteaux Channel and Greater Hobart Area.
What to do:
- Tasmania Fire Service urges people to report any new fires by immediately calling Triple Zero (000).
- People with medical conditions are advised to have a personal plan for avoiding smoke from the burn. Advice is available from the Department of Health www.dhhs.tas.gov.au/publichealth/air/bushfire_smoke or the Asthma Foundation of Tasmania www.asthmatas.org.au
- People traveling in the area should exercise caution if driving in smoke. Turn on your headlights and drive slowly.
- If you live in the area of the fire, stay informed in case conditions change by monitoring local radio stations and the Tasmania Fire Service Website - www.fire.tas.gov.au
