Body found near Lachlan

POLICE say human remains found near Lachlan on Tuesday could be those of a man who went missing six years ago.

Acting on the advice of a group of bushwalkers who discovered bones and camping gear during an expedition on Mt Charles on Monday, police officers used four-wheel-drive vehicles to access the site and conduct an examination of the scene.

A police spokesman said documents found near the remains indicated they belonged to Dale Godfrey, who has been missing since March 2013. DNA analysis will be carried out to confirm the identification.

Mr Godfrey was last seen while camping on Mt Wellington. Prior to going missing, he had spent most of his time living in the Huonville area.

Police say Mr Godfrey’s family has been notified and there are not believed to be any suspicious circumstances surrounding his death. A report will be prepared for the coroner.
