Summer fun continues at Mt Field

THE Discovery Ranger Summer Program continues at Mt Field National Park in the Derwent Valley, where Discovery Rangers will offer free fun and educational activities at various times. 

Participants are asked to bring sunscreen, sturdy shoes and a hat for all daytime activities. Programmed activities may change in adverse weather.

Mandarin-speaking Discovery Rangers are also on hand at Mt Field, providing on-the-ground assistance and highlighting the wonders of the park to Chinese visitors.

Monday, January 14
11am: Campfires & Firesticks (1hr). Meet at the front of the Visitor Centre. Join Aboriginal Discovery Ranger Tas Langford on a cultural journey and find out how fire has shaped our landscape.
3pm: Fun Guys & Ferns in the Forest (1hr). Meet at the Tall Trees car park. There’s so mush-room all around! Something at every fern, you’re sure to take a lichen to it – come learn about Tasmania’s rainforests.
8.30pm: Creatures of the Night! (1hr). Come along for the chance to meet some of Tasmania’s very special wildlife. Limited numbers for this spotlight walk – please book at the Visitor Centre.

Tuesday, January 15
10am: Devils in Danger (1 hr). Meet at the Visitor Centre. A chance to learn about our incredibly unique and endangered devil – come learn how you can help.
1pm: Yoga in the Forest (1hr). Meet at the Visitor Centre. Relax and connect in the beautifully serene landscape that is Mt Field.
2.30pm: Bush art & craft (1.5hrs). Meet at the Visitor Centre. Take part in creating your own bush masterpieces.

Wednesday, January 16
9am: Tasmanian Bushwalking Banter (1hr). Meet at the Visitor Centre. Have all your bushwandering questions answered. Tasmanian-specific bushwalking ins & outs.
1pm: Shelter building (1hr). Meet at the Visitor Centre. Learn about the traditional custodian’s way of life by making a traditional shelter with Aboriginal Discovery Ranger Tas Langford.
3pm: Nature Detectives (1hr). Meet at the start of the Russell Falls track. Heighten your senses and tickle your curiosity! Find out how to uncover mysterious stories left by the life that surrounds us. 

PLEASE NOTE: All activities are free but park entry fees apply. Bring sun and rain protection. Activities may be cancelled in bad weather or unsafe conditions.
