Derwent flood warning updated

Minor Flood Warning for the River Derwent

Issued at 10:53am on Friday 17 August 2018


Flood Warning Number: 7

Minor flooding is occurring along the River Derwent below Meadowbank Dam.

River levels are falling in the River Derwent. Forecast rainfall is expected to bring renewed river rises during Saturday with the possibility of minor flooding developing in some areas.

In the 24 hours to 9 am Friday, rainfall totals of up to 10 mm have been recorded in the Derwent catchment.

Rainfall totals of 10 to 30 mm are forecast for elevated areas overnight Friday into Saturday.

Snow levels are expected to fall to 900 m late Friday evening.

Strong and dangerous flows will be a hazard over the next few days.


River Derwent above River Ouse:

River levels are easing along the River Derwent above River Ouse.

River Ouse:

River levels are easing in the River Ouse.

The River Ouse at Ashton is currently at 1.43 metres and falling.

River Clyde:

River rises are occurring along the River Clyde.

Styx River:

High river levels continue along the Styx River.

River Derwent below Meadowbank Dam:

Minor flooding is occurring along the River Derwent below Meadowbank Dam.

The River Derwent below Meadowbank Dam peaked at 4.82 metres (minor flood level 4.1 metres) around midday Thursday and is currently at 4.31 metres and falling. The River Derwent below Meadowbank Dam is likely to fall below the minor flood level (4.10 m) Friday evening.

The River Derwent at Macquarie Plains peaked at 3.42 metres around 10:00 pm Thursday 16 August and is currently at 3.22 metres and falling.

River Derwent around New Norfolk:

The River Derwent around New Norfolk is expected to remain below minor.

The River Derwent at New Norfolk is expected to remain below the minor flood level (2.00 m) during Friday.
