Minor Flood Warning for the River Derwent
Issued at 4:02pm on Thursday 16 August 2018
Flood Warning Number: 6
Minor flooding is occurring along the River Derwent below Meadowbank Dam and may extend downstream to Macquarie Plains and New Norfolk overnight Thursday into Friday.
River rises continue along the upper River Derwent and some of its tributaries, including the Nive, Florentine, Ouse, Clyde, Styx and Plenty rivers.
In the 48 hours to 4 pm Thursday, widespread 20-60 mm rainfall totals were recorded across the Derwent catchment.
No further significant rainfall is expected until Friday evening.
Strong and dangerous flows will be a hazard over the next few days.
River Derwent above River Ouse:
River levels are easing along the River Derwent above River Ouse.
River levels are easing in the River Ouse.
The River Ouse at Ashton is currently at 1.71 metres and steady.
River rises are occurring along the River Clyde.
High river levels continue along the Styx River.
River Derwent below Meadowbank Dam:
Minor flooding is occurring along the River Derwent below Meadowbank Dam.
The River Derwent below Meadowbank Dam is currently at 4.72 metres and rising. The River Derwent below Meadowbank Dam is expected to remain above the minor flood level (4.10 m) during Thursday. The river level may peak between 5.20 and 5.50 metres Thursday evening.
The River Derwent at Macquarie Plains is currently at 3.25 metres and rising. The River Derwent at Macquarie Plains may reach the minor flood level (4.00 m) overnight Thursday into Friday and the river level may peak between 3.80 and 4.10 metres.
River Derwent around New Norfolk:
Minor flooding may occur along the River Derwent around New Norfolk.
The River Derwent at New Norfolk may reach the minor flood level (2.00 m) overnight Thursday into Friday and the river level may peak between 1.80 and 2.10 metres.
