Take care on the roads today

POLICE advise motorists to drive according to the conditions at all times and to be aware that on country roads especially, those conditions can change quickly because of ice and snow.

Local road hazards and closures as of 7.34am, Tuesday, September 5: 

Gordon River Rd – Closed from Maydena to Strathgordon

Lake Dobson Rd – open but proceed with extreme caution

Highland Lakes Rd – Steppes to Miena – open to 4WD vehicles only – proceed with extreme caution

Lyell Hwy – Wayatinah, Bradys and Derwent Bridge – snowing heavily – open to 4WD vehicles only – proceed with extreme caution

Lyell Hwy from Black Bobs through to Tarraleah – snow is settling and is open to 4WD only at this stage.

Marlborough Rd – open to 4WD vehicles only – proceed with extreme caution


Midland Hwy – open but proceed with caution.

    for the Upper Derwent Valley, North West Coast, Central North, North East, Western, Central Plateau, Midlands, East Coast and South East forecast districts

    Issued at 4:33 am EST on Tuesday 5 September 2017.

    Snow covered roads above 200 metres will make driving conditions dangerous during Tuesday and Wednesday in parts of the North West Coast, Central North, North East, Western, Central Plateau, Midlands, East Coast, Upper Derwent Valley and South East forecast districts.

    For information on any road closures, please contact your local council or the Police.
    The next alert will be  issued by 11am Tuesday.
