Gretna cricket season celebrated

THE annual dinner and trophy presentation for the Gretna Cricket Club was held at the Gretna Parish Hall last month.

The night went off well, with Gretna I wicket-keeper/batsman Glenn Blackwell being the standout during the presentations, collecting five trophies including the best all-rounder and the players award. For Gretna II, Jake Campbell did well collecting the best all-rounder, best Under 21 and bowling aggregate trophies.

At the conclusion of the trophy presentations, senior coach Colin Cunningham was presented with a framed certificate and pin from Cricket Australia and Cricket Tasmania for 50 years of service to the game.

Gretna I - batting average: Glenn Blackwell 39.6; aggregate: Glenn Blackwell 475 runs; bowling average: Corey Ransley 18.9; aggregate: Craig Cunningham 21 wickets; most catches: Glenn Blackwell 17; Geoff Jarvis Memorial Trophy for best all-rounder: Glenn Blackwell 254.5 points; players' award: Glenn Blackwell 15 votes; runner up: Ben Rainbird 12 votes.

Gretna II - batting average: Jordan Hastie 20.9; aggregate: Jordan Hastie 293 runs; bowling average: Adam Browning 15.4; aggregate: Adam Browning and Jake Campbell 16 wickets each; most catches: Adam Browning 7; best all-rounder: Jake Campbell 204.5 pts; players' award: Jordan Hastie 10 votes; runner up: Jake Campbell 9.5 votes; Cecil Gray Memorial trophy (Best under 21): Jake Campbell 205.5 pts; Captains Trophy: Luke Crosswell; 300 games: Brian Smith. Duck Trophy: Adam Browning, Zachary Crosswell and Jackson Ackerly (four each).

Congratulations to the following for reaching their milestone matches.

  • Club: Glenn Blackwell 350th; Brian Smith 300th; Craig Cunningham 200th; Tom Allcock 150th.
  • Gretna I: Ben Rainbird 250th; Bruce Emery 200th; Jonathon Smith 150th; Corey Ransley 150th; Rhys Browning 100th; Darren Lennox 50th.
  • Gretna II: Luke Wheeler 50th.

Life members in attendance for the evening were Peter Rainbird, Joey Hack, Paul Jarvis, Glenn Blackwell and Ben Rainbird. It was great to see major sponsors Mathew and Cindy Burns of State-Wide Earthworks come along and also long-time sponsors Phil and Colleen Sharpe from the Gretna Green Hotel. Also in attendance was Central Highlands Council Mayor Lou Triffitt who kindly donated a trophy as well.
