Helicopter rescue at Derwent Cliffs last night

AN 18-year-old New Norfolk man was flown to the Royal Hobart Hospital last night after falling during a walk in the Derwent Cliffs Reserve at New Norfolk.

Constable Oakden of Tasmania Police said the man had telephoned for an ambulance after slipping and falling at about 8.15pm. "A Paramedic and two volunteer ambulance officers attended the scene and were able to access him down a steep slope. He had broken his arm and had pain in his lower back," Constable Oakden said.

Police and ambulance officers decided the best way to transport the teenager to hospital was to use the Westpac Rescue Helicopter. The helicopter landed nearby and its crew walked to the man's location and placed him in a stretcher.

The man was then winched into the helicopter and flown to the Hobart Cenotaph helipad and transferred to the Royal Hobart Hospital by ambulance.
