Remembrance Day tomorrow

A SERVICE for Remembrance Day will be held at 11am tomorrow (Friday) at the Cenotaph in Circle St, New Norfolk. This is organised by the New Norfolk RSL Sub-Branch and the Derwent Valley Council. All are welcome.

The event will start at 10.45am and will include a minute's silence at 11am. Originally known as Armistice Day, Remembrance Day commemorates the moment that the guns of World War I fell silent at the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month in 1918.

Those attending the service will be able to observe the impressive growth of the Centenary of Anzac Remembrance Garden that was officially opened on Remembrance Day last year. Planted with Peace and Centenary of Gallipoli roses, the garden also includes a panel recording the history of the Millbrook Rise Hospital.

This year's service will be followed by the planting of a Lone Pine seedling on Arthur Square at the opposite end of High St. The tree has been donated to the town by Lyons Liberal MHA Guy Barnett, Minister for Resources and Minister for Building and Construction, who will speak at the event.
