Derwent minor flood warning updated

Minor Flood Warning for the River Derwent


Issued at 4:12 pm on Wednesday 12 October 2016
Flood Warning Number: 2

Minor flooding continues in the lower reaches of the River Derwent during Wednesday afternoon. River levels are expected to remain high overnight Wednesday into Thursday before easing slowly. Flooding is not expected to extend downstream to New Norfolk.
Lake King William continues to spill resulting in elevated river levels downstream.
In the 24 hours to 9AM Wednesday, rainfall totals of 20 to 40mm were reported about the Derwent catchment, mainly about the upper reaches. Rain has eased during Wednesday, with totals less than 5mm reported since 9AM.
Strong flows will remain a hazard throughout the Derwent catchment for the next few days.


River Derwent above River Ouse:

River rises have been observed in the upper reaches of the River Derwent above River Ouse. Lake King William continues to spill resulting in elevated river levels downstream.


River Ouse:

No further flooding is expected in the River Ouse.
The River Ouse at Ashton is currently at 1.36 metres and steady.


River Clyde:

No further flooding is expected in the River Clyde.
The River Clyde at Bothwell is currently at 1.18 metres and steady.

River Derwent above Meadowbank Dam:

High river levels will continue in the River Derwent above Meadowbank Dam overnight Wednesday into Thursday.

Tyenna River:

No further flooding is expected in the Tyenna River.


Styx River:

No further flooding is expected in the Styx River.


River Derwent below Meadowbank Dam:

Minor flooding is occurring along the River Derwent below Meadowbank Dam.
The River Derwent below Meadowbank Dam is currently at 4.10 metres and steady. The River Derwent below Meadowbank Dam is expected to remain around the minor flood level (4.10 m) overnight Wednesday into Thursday.
The River Derwent at Macquarie Plains is currently at 2.82 metres and steady. The River Derwent at Macquarie Plains is expected to remain below the minor flood level (4.00 m) overnight Wednesday into Thursday.


River Derwent around New Norfolk:

Minor flooding is not expected to extend into the lower reaches of the River Derwent around New Norfolk.
The River Derwent at New Norfolk is currently at 1.22 metres and steady. The River Derwent at New Norfolk will remain below the minor flood level (2.00 m) overnight Wednesday into Thursday.
