Major Flood Warning for the River Derwent

Issued at 9:05pm on Monday 6 June 2016
Flood Warning Number: 6

Major flooding has developed in the River Derwent below Meadowbank Dam. Major flooding is likely to extend into the Lower River Derwent about Macquarie Plains overnight Monday into Tuesday, where the river has already exceeded the moderate flood level. Minor flooding has developed at New Norfolk.

Major flood will continue in the River Ouse at Ashton and Ouse township overnight Monday and into Tuesday.


River Derwent above River Ouse:

River rises have occurred in the upper reaches of the River Derwent and river levels are beginning to ease.


River Ouse:

Major flooding is occurring along the River Ouse.
The River Ouse at Ashton is likely to peak between 5.60 and 6.00 metres late Monday evening and will start to ease during Tuesday.
The River Ouse at Ouse is expected to exceed the major flood level (5.70 m) Monday evening and will start to ease during Tuesday.


River Clyde:

Minor flooding is expected along the River Clyde.
The River Clyde at Bothwell is expected to peak between 2.30 and 2.50 metres (Minor) overnight Monday into Tuesday.
The River Clyde at Hamilton is likely to exceed the minor flood level (2.40 m) Tuesday morning.


River Derwent above Meadowbank Dam:

River rises are occurring in the middle reaches of the River Derwent.


Tyenna River:

River rises are occurring in the Tyenna River


Styx River:

Minor flooding has developed along the Styx River.


River Derwent below Meadowbank Dam:

Major flooding is occurring along the River Derwent below Meadowbank Dam.
The River Derwent below Meadowbank Dam is currently at 7.42 metres and steady. The River Derwent below Meadowbank Dam may peak between 7.40 and 7.70 metres overnight Monday into Tuesday.
The River Derwent at Macquarie Plains is currently at 5.58 metres and rising. The River Derwent at Macquarie Plains is likely to peak between 6.70 and 7.00 metres early Tuesday morning. Strong inflows from the River Ouse are expected to maintain high river levels during Tuesday.


River Derwent around New Norfolk:

Minor flooding is occurring along the River Derwent around New Norfolk.
The River Derwent at New Norfolk is expected to exceed the minor flood level (2.00 m) overnight Monday into Tuesday. The river level is likely to peak between 2.80 and 3.10 metres early Tuesday morning.
