Derwent flood warning: 3am update

Major Flood Warning for the River Derwent

Issued at 3:03 am on Tuesday 7 June 2016

Flood Warning Number: 8

Major flooding has developed in the River Derwent below Meadowbank Dam. Major flooding is likely to extend into the Lower River Derwent about Macquarie Plains Tuesday, where the river has already exceeded the moderate flood level. Minor flooding has developed at New Norfolk.

Major flooding will continue in the River Ouse at Ashton and Ouse township during early Tuesday.

River Derwent above River Ouse:

Rises River levels in the upper reaches of the River Derwent are still occurring.

River Ouse:

Major flooding is occurring along the River Ouse. Currently there is no information available from the river gauges at Ashton or Ouse.

The River Ouse at Ashton is likely to have peaked between 5.60 and 6.00 metres late Monday evening.

The River Ouse at Ouse is expected to exceed the major flood level (5.70 m) Tuesday morning.

River Clyde:

Minor flooding may occur along the River Clyde.

The River Clyde at Bothwell peaked at 2.00 metres around 8 pm Monday 06 June and is currently at 1.93 metres and steady.

The River Clyde at Hamilton may exceed the minor flood level (2.40 m) Tuesday afternoon.

River Derwent above Meadowbank Dam:

River rises are occurring in the middle reaches of the River Derwent.

Tyenna River:

The Tyenna River is slowly falling.

Styx River:

Minor flooding is occurring along the Styx River. At Bruces Bridge the Styx River is above the minor flood level (2.00m) and rising.

River Derwent below Meadowbank Dam:

Major flooding is occurring along the River Derwent below Meadowbank Dam.

The River Derwent below Meadowbank Dam is currently at 6.20 metres and steady. The River Derwent below Meadowbank Dam may peak between 7.40 and 7.70 metres Tuesday.

The River Derwent at Macquarie Plains is currently at 6.15 metres and rising. The River Derwent at Macquarie Plains is likely to peak between 6.70 and 7.00 metres early Tuesday morning. Strong inflows from the River Ouse are expected to maintain high river levels during Tuesday.

River Derwent around New Norfolk:

Minor flooding is occurring along the River Derwent around New Norfolk.

The River Derwent at New Norfolk is likely to peak between 2.80 and 3.10 metres early Tuesday afternoon.
