CANCELLED: Severe weather warning

Cancellation of
Severe Weather Warning

for people in the Upper Derwent Valley, Western, Midlands, East Coast and South East forecast districts

Issued at 5:57pm on Sunday 15 May 2016.

Weather Situation

A low is moving away to the east of Tasmania. Winds will continue to ease this evening as a ridge approaches from the west.

The Severe Weather Warning for the Western, Midlands, East Coast, Upper Derwent Valley and South East forecast districts has been cancelled, but the situation will continue to be monitored and further warnings will be issued if necessary.

Maximum wind gusts observed over the last 6 hours include: 139km/h Maatsuyker Island, 115 km/h kunanyi/Mt Wellington, 102 km/h Cape Bruny, 89 km/h Hobart Airport.

The State Emergency Service and Tasmania Police advise that people should:

  • Supervise children closely
  • Do not walk, ride or drive through flood waters
  • Beware of damaged trees and power lines and take care when driving
  • Listen to the ABC radio or check www.ses.tas.gov.au for further advice
