Southern cricket - Round 8

SOUTHERN CRICKET ASSOCIATION
Derwent Valley matches
Round 8

IN a rain effected First Grade match that was reduced to 44 overs, New Norfolk I went down to St Virgil's by 21 runs on Sunday. The Red Caps won the toss and sent the home side in to make a respectable 4 for 208 with three of the home side bowlers taking wickets. In reply, New Norfolk gave it a good shot but was bowled out in the 40th over. Ashley Morgan did his best to give his team a chance of victory with a well-made 62 including six 4s and two 6s. Coach Dav Maddox also did well making 36 including four boundaries.

Corey Ransley.
Thanks to a seven wicket haul by Gretna paceman Corey Ransley and some great batting from the team, Gretna had a big win at home over Claremont in Second Grade on Saturday. Ransley took his first wicket from just his second delivery and steamrolled through the Magpies, finishing with figures of 7-28 off 10 overs.  Earlier in the day the visitors won the toss and sent Gretna in to make the very good score of 6 for 251 with all batsmen contributing. Rhys Browning has been in great form of late and compiled a well-made 53 not out, hitting the boundary six times. Aaron Maddox 35 and Craig Cunningham 22 put on a great opening partnership of 91. Captain Ben Rainbird came in down the order making 26 and before his wicket haul Corey Ransley made 18 not out. In reply, Claremont was bundled out for 102 giving Gretna a 149-run victory.

A superb all-round effort by Nathan Eiszele helped Molesworth I to a great win over Sandford at home. Eiszele is in good form this season and made an excellent 92 in his team's total of 230. He hit five 4s and a staggering eight 6s, putting on a batting clinic for all to see at the big Boyer Oval. Daniel Adams 32 and Nick Piuselli 31 did well earlier.  In reply Sandford was unable to handle the Molesworth bowlers and was bowled out for 161. Again it was Nathan Eiszele who was among the action, taking 4-32 in a good spell of bowling from 8.3 overs and Brad Coppleman bowled equally as well finishing with great figures of 3-16 off nine overs. Molesworth is in great form so far this season and looks to again play in the finals.

In Third Grade, the in-form Bushy Park went down to Runnymede by 23 runs on Saturday. Runnymede won the toss and elected to bat, hitting up 10 for 179. Of the Bushy Park bowlers, new player B. Howlett did very well taking 5 for 22 from five overs while Trent Grant picked up three victims. In reply, Bushy Park went close, but just couldn't manage the extra runs needed. Mitchell Crosswell has been in good form with the ball of late and this week put his hand to batting, making the top score of 57 while Damien Madden made 19.

In the other Third Grade match, Gretna II suffered an 88-run loss to MacKillop Beltas at Cambridge Oval. The home side had first knock, making 226. Adam Browning was the main wicket taker for Gretna with 3-35 while Zac Crosswell did well taking 2-23 and Joey Eyles 2-35. In reply Gretna started off well with Jack Gregson again getting amongst the runs, top scoring with 33. From here Gretna lost six for just five runs and was all out for 138.

In Fourth Grade New Norfolk went down to the Marquis Tigers by 91 runs on Sunday. The Tigers made the good score of 223 with Jamie Hill the best of the Red Caps bowlers taking 3-26 off his 10 overs. In reply New Norfolk was dismissed for 132. Brendan Skelly was the best of the batsman with a well-made 45 which included eight 4s. Chris Eiszele who hadn't played for five years did well making 25.

Sam Triffitt hit up a century to help Molesworth II to a good victory over the Knights in Fifth Grade on Saturday. The home team won the toss and sent Molesworth into bat. Triffitt certainly made the most of the opportunity. In his total of 105 he hit 12 fours and four 6s in a great display of batting. Larry Menzie was next best with 31. In reply the Knights were bowled out just shy of Molesworth's total for 220. Aaron Triffitt and Larry Menzie were the pick of the bowlers with two wickets each. This young Molesworth team is performing very well and looking better as the season progresses.
