Severe weather warning

BUREAU OF METEOROLOGY
SEVERE WEATHER WARNING
for people in the Furneaux Islands, Western, Central Plateau, East Coast, Upper Derwent Valley and South East forecast districts

Issued at 3:45 pm on Friday 3 May 2013.

Weather Situation
A cold front is approaching Tasmania and is expected to cross the state this evening.

Damaging winds around 70 km/h with peak gusts of 130 km/h are forecast for parts of the Furneaux Islands, Western, Central Plateau, East Coast, Upper Derwent Valley and South East forecast districts.

Mt Wellington experienced a 124km/h wind gust at 10:35AM, Hobart 102km/h at 3:40PM.

The State Emergency Service and Tasmania Police advise that people should:
Secure or put away loose items around your house, yard and balcony.
Keep clear of fallen power lines.
For emergency help in floods and storms, ring the SES on 132 500.

The next warning will be issued by 11:00 pm Friday. www.bom.gov.au
